Our Curriculum
At Sol Solecito Spanish Immersion Learning Center, we offer a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on Massachusetts standards. We believe in a play-based approach to joyful, engaged learning, aligning with the National Association for the Education of Young Children's definition of developmentally appropriate practice. Our curriculum is tailored to each student's interests and captures their attention to foster cognitive development.
Language Development
Through meaningful experiences like book reading, singing, art activities, games, and journaling, we provide opportunities for early literacy concepts and handwriting development. Students are exposed to letter-sound connections, word formation, and sentence construction to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Our Spanish language activities enhance handwriting abilities, phonological awareness, vocabulary, alphabet knowledge, and narrative skills.
Cognitive Development: Science, Math, and Social Studies
Cognitive development at Sol Solecito involves exploring, thinking, problem-solving, and understanding the world. Math skills cover number concepts, counting, addition, and subtraction. Children develop visual representation skills, recognize numbers, and engage in pattern construction and object sorting. In science, students observe, compare, measure, predict, classify, and hypothesize, nurturing their natural scientific spirit. Social studies learning expands beyond the classroom, exploring diverse cultures, places, foods, music, and backgrounds through virtual trips and interactions with people worldwide.
Social-Emotional Development
We prioritize children's emotional well-being, fostering positive social relationships. Our classrooms provide a nurturing environment where children learn to express and understand emotions, take turns, become independent, follow routines, interact with peers, and develop a positive self-image. These skills contribute to their overall well-being and successful participation in life experiences.
Physical Development: Fine and gross motor skills
Fine motor skills involve hand, finger, and wrist movements. We encourage activities like cutting, coloring, playing with Legos, and drawing to enhance hand-eye coordination. Gross motor skills involve larger muscle groups, which children develop through active play, improving strength, agility, coordination, balance, and flexibility while fostering confidence and social skills.
Sensory Exploration
Sensory play is essential for children to understand and make sense of the world. At Sol Solecito, students engage in sensory exploration through music and dance games, sensory bins, and playing with various materials that stimulate their senses. This allows them to examine, discover, and categorize different textures, smells, tastes, and sensations.
Art, Music, Dance, and Creative Expression
We encourage creative expression through art, music, dance, and drama. The creative arts stimulate children's imagination, movement, rhythm, and self-expression. Students explore different art media, music, culture, and dance, fostering creativity and imagination. Through various sensory experiences and play, they have the opportunity to express themselves and have fun.
